   Goldilocks and the 3 bears



 Before reading:

Ƙ     Set the context and purpose for the reading.
Ƙ     Highlight main ideas and key points.
Ƙ     Activate prior knowledge.
Ƙ     Discuss the title, cover, pictures, author, and illustrator.
Ƙ     Make connections (to self, text, world).
Ƙ     Predict what the story might be about.
 
During reading:
Ƙ     Demonstrate key reading strategies including
·        look at the pictures
·        use your finger detective
·        look at the first letter
·        get your mouth ready
·        sound out the letters in the word
·        break down larger words into smaller chunks
·        skip the word if you have difficulty, and read the rest of the sentence
·        reread the sentence
Ƙ     Stop at intervals and discuss key points, vocabulary, meaning and details.
Ƙ     Make connections (to self, text, world)
Ƙ     Ask and answer questions.
Ƙ     Predict what will happen next, infer, determine importance.
 
After reading:
Ƙ     Identify the key concepts or the main idea.
Ƙ     Summarize or sequence the events.
Ƙ     Point out details or describe significant parts.
Ƙ     Ask specific questions.
Ƙ     Make connections (to self, text, world).
Ƙ     Compare/contrast/analyse
Ƙ     Make inferences
Ƙ     State opinions/point of view.
Ƙ     Draw conclusions
Ƙ       Share insights and understandings
 
Language
 
Let your children tell you what he knows about where bears , what they really eat, and how they really sleep. Record the comments.Collect books and photos to extend their knowledge. Check what the children say.
